Service Tasks

Purpose: Learning what a service engineer should do to maintain the product quality

Outline
The table below lists the jobs of a service engineer about the paper feed and transport system.
For a specific explanation, click the corresponding item.

Description
1
Explains what must always be done after parts replacement.
2
Explains the contents of maintenance service work.
3

4
Explains what must not be done in service work.

Some parts of this machine require adjustment or counter clearance in service mode when they are replaced.
The parts requiring adjustments and also their adjustment procedures are as explained below.

Manual feed tray unit and manual feed tray paper width sensor
If the manual feed tray unit or manual feed tray paper width sensor is replaced, register the basic values about paper width in he following service mode:
COPIER > FUNCTION > CST > MF-A4R/MF-A6R/MF-A4

The following mode is to enter service label values at fine adjustment or at the clearance or replacement of the RAM of DC controller and not to make settings at the replacement of the manual paper feed tray.
COPIER > ADJUST > CST-ADJ > MF-A4R/MF-A6R/MF-A4

Cassette pick-up roller (cassette 1, 2, 3, 4)
If you have replaced the cassette pick-up roller, you will have to reset the cassette pick-up roller life counter so that the count will start anew.
Make the following selections in service mode to reset the counter:
 COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 > C1/2/3/4-PU-RL

Cassette feed roller (cassette 1, 2, 3, 4)
If you have replaced the cassette feed roller, you will have to reset the cassette feed roller life counter so that the count will start anew.
Make the following selections in service mode to reset the counter:
 COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 > C1/2/3/4-FD-RL

Cassette separation roller (cassette 1, 2, 3, 4)
If you have replaced the cassette separation roller, you will have to reset the cassette separation roller life counter so that the count will start anew.
Make the following selections in service mode to reset the counter:
 COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 > C1/2/3/4-SP-RL

Manual feed pick-up roller
If you have replaced the manual feed pick-up roller, you will have to reset the manual feed pick-up roller life counter so that the count will start anew.
Make the following selections in service mode to reset the counter:
 COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 > M-PU-RL

Manual feed separation pad
If you have replaced the manual feed separation pad, you will have to reset the manual feed separation pad life counter so that the count will start anew.
Make the following selections in service mode to reset the counter:
 COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 > M-SP-PD

Each life count is kept in memory on the DC controller PCB. If you have to replace the DC controller PCB, be sure to enter the count that has been read of the previous PCB.

The table below lists parts that require periodic replacement, cleaning, or inspection by a service engineer.
If these parts come near to the ends of their lives, replace, clean, or inspect them.

Horizontal resist position error on the second side of a duplex print
This machine does not have a function to detect and correct a resist error on the first and second sides. If there is a horizontal resist position (image write position) error on the second side of a duplex print, correct the error in service mode. Since large paper becomes askew more easily during transport, this machine allows the adjustment value to be varied between small paper and large paper.
1) Horizontal resist adjustment for the second size of a small duplex print
   COPIER > ADJUST > FEED-ADJ > ADJ-FREE
2) Horizontal resist adjustment for the second size of a large duplex print
   COPIER > ADJUST > FEED-ADJ > ADJ-L

Small paper:  Shorter than the letter size in the transport direction (e.g. A4, B5)
Large paper:  Longer than the letter size in the transport direction (e.g. A3, A4R)

In service mode, the side of a duplex print indicates the second one in imaging order. Therefore, the second side of a duplex print corresponds to the first side of a document.

Skew feed or paper wrinkle on the second side of a duplex print
Since the transport path to the resist roller differs between the first side and second side of a duplex print in this machine, the resist loop on the second side must be adjusted. If skew feed or paper wrinkle occurs only on the second side of a duplex print, the resist loop on the second side may be abnormal. Adjust the resist loop in service mode.
   COPIER > ADJUST > FEED-ADJ > LOOPREFE

Cyclic smearing
If a paper feed or transport roller is damaged or smeared, an image fault appears cyclically. Therefore, the cause of cyclic fault appearance can be identified.
The table below gives the cycles of rollers. If an image fault appears cyclically, a service engineer should identify the cause quickly from the cycle and take corresponding action.
For the location of each transport roller, see the arrangement drawing:

Option tray
If you have attached the option tray, you will have to make settings on the service mode.  Make the following selections in service mode.

∙ Inner -Way Tray-D1
  COPIER > OPTION > ACC > IN-TRAY

∙ Copy Tray-J1
  COPIER > OPTION > ACC > OUT-TRAY
