1. Outline

a. Functions

The transfer unit serves to transfer the toner image developed on the photosensitive drum onto print paper. It also helps separate print paper from the photosensitive drum.

　

b. Construction

The transfer unit consists of a transfer charging roller [1] and a static eliminator.

The transfer charging roller operates in keeping with the movement of the photosensitive drum. A positive bias is applied to the roller to attract the toner image from the surface of the photosensitive drum onto print paper. A negative bias, on the other hand, is applied to neutralize the positive charges on the print paper (occurring in the course of transfer), thereby facilitating the separation of paper from the photosensitive drum.
