In this unit, we review the flow from paper feed until
paper ejection and learn the configuration and functions of each unit and what a
service engineer should do.
Purpose: Learning the components and specifications of the
paper feed and transport system to understand an outline of the
system
1. Outline
The paper feed and transport system feeds,
transports, and ejects printing paper from the paper inlet.

The component for paper ejection differs between the
iR2270/2870 Series (230V model) and the iR2270/2870 Series (120V model), iR3570/4570 Series. Since 3 way
unit-A1 is a standard component for the iR2270/2870 Series (120V model) and
iR3570/4570 Series (option for the the iR2270/2870 Series (230V model)), the
paper path differs between the iR2270/2870 Series (230V model) and the
iR2270/2870 Series (120V model), iR3570/4570 Series.
The automatic duplex mechanism built in this
machine supports duplex printing as a standard feature.
The paper paths in the standard
configurations of the series are given below. By clicking the [ ] button at a paper ejection tray name, you can see the paper path
to the tray by animation.
○iR2270/2870 Series (230V model)
Paper inlet:
The standard configuration has three inlets [1][2][5]. By using two
optional ones [3][4], the number of inlets can be increased up to five.
Paper outlet:
The standard configuration has one outlet. By adding two optional ones,
the number of outlets can be increased up to three.

Drive Parts
Arrangement
The transport controller of this machine rotates when the DC
controller controls each motor, clutch, or solenoid.
Once printing operation has started, the DC controller controls each
load to rotate each transport roller.  This feeds
paper from the paper inlet, transports it through the machine, and ejects it to
the paper ejection tray.
This machine has photosensors (14 for the iR2270/2870 Series and 19
for the iR3570/4570 Series) for cassette paper presence/absence detection, paper
level detection, ejected paper full detection, and jam detection. If a sensor
detects an error, a message is displayed.
The arrangements of transport rollers,
motors, clutches, and sensors are given below.
