When replaced, some parts of the machine
require adjustment or counter initialization in service mode.
Go through the following for those parts that
require special work (e.g., adjustment) upon replacement:
■Drum Unit
1) APVC Correction
The thickness of the coating of the
photosensitive drum differs from drum to drum. If you have replaced the drum
unit, you will have to execute APVC correction.
(For details, see the
descriptions given for APVC correction.)
1)
Connect the power plug to the power outlet, and turn on the main power
switch.
2)
Start service mode, and make the following selections:
COPIER>FUNCTION>DPC>D-GAMMA.
3)
Press the OK key.
∙ The machine will pick up
paper from cassette 1. (The size of paper inside the cassette is
irrelevant.)
∙ If there is no paper inside
cassette 1, the machine selects the cassette below it.
 ∙ The machine discharges the
paper (blank) to automatically end APVC correction.
4)
Press the Reset key twice to end service mode.
■Developing Unit
1)
Feeding and Stirring Toner
A new developing unit is empty. If you have replaced the developing
unit, you will have to supply it with toner; once toner is inside, you will then
have to stir the toner for a specific period of time so that it is charged to a
specific potential.
Make the following selections in service mode
to supply and stir toner:
 COPIER > FUNCTION > INSTALL > STIR-K
2)
Resetting the Developing Cylinder Life Counter
If you have replaced the developing cylinder,
you will have to reset the developing cylinder life counter so that the count
will start anew.
Make the following selections in service mode
to reset the counter:
 COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 >
DVG-CYL
The test copies made immediately after the toner has been stirred may
carry a small amount of toner on the back (stray toner inside the machine). Make
3 or so copies, as subsequent copies will be free of such
soiling.
■Transfer Roller
If you have replaced the transfer roller, you
will have to reset the transfer roller life counter so that the count will start
anew.
Make the following selections in service mode
to reset the counter:
 COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 >
TR-ROLL
■Static Eliminator
If you have replaced the static eliminator,
you will have to reset the static eliminator life counter so that the
count will start anew.
Make the following selections in service mode
to reset the counter:
 COPIER > COUNTER > DRBL-1 >
SP-SC-EL
Each life count is kept in memory on the DC
controller PCB. If you have to replace the DC controller PCB, be sure to enter
the count that has been read of the previous PCB.
2. Maintenance Servicing
The service person is expected to replace,
clean, or inspect the following parts on a periodical basis.
Perform the appropriate work by referring to
the indicated intervals:
|

upon inspection, replace the waste toner box. | |

If the transfer roller arm is used beyond its indicated
replacement interval, leakage current from transfer can start to burn the
arm.
■E020-0000 (toner feedscrew fault)
If there is a fault in the toner feedscrew,
go through the following to correct it:
1)
Check the connectors between the sub hopper feedscrew motor or the toner
sensor and the DC controller.
2)
Check the toner feedscrew drive parts for damage.
3)
Replace the sub hopper feedscrew motor.
4)
Replace the developing unit toner sensor or the sub hopper toner
sensor.
5)
Replace the DC controller PCB.
■E190-0000 (waste toner box full error)
In the event of a waste toner box full error,
reset the printer unit by performing either of the following:
∙
Replace the waste toner box.
■If a toner absent error (with a message prompting the replacement of
the toner cartridge) occurs even
after replacement of the toner bottle with a
new one, go through the following:
1)
Check the connectors between the toner bottle rotation motor (M5) and the
DC controller.
2)
Check the toner stirring plate drive parts for damage.
3)
Replace the toner bottle rotation motor (M5).
4)
Replace the hopper unit.
5)
Replace the DC controller PCB.
■Cyclic Soiling
The presence of a scratch or dirt on any of
the rollers of the image formation system will show as a cyclic image fault. If
there is such a fault, refer to the interval to identify the
fault.
The following table shows the intervals
associated with the individual rollers. Make use of the table to quickly
identify the cause (roller).
|
Parts name |
Fault type |
Interval |
Remedy |
|
Primary charging
roller |
cyclic soling (face) |
about 50 mm |
Replace the drum
unit. |
|
Photosensitive
drum |
cyclic soiling (face) |
about 94 mm |
Replace the drum
unit. |
|
Developing
cylinder |
cyclic soiling (face) |
about 63 mm |
Replace the developing cylinder or the
developing unit. |
|
Transfer charging
roller |
cyclic soiling |
about 50 mm |
Replace the transfer charging
roller. |
■Points to Note When Handling the Drum
Unit
∙ Take
care not to touch or leave scratches on the surface of the photosensitive drum
in the drum unit.
■Points to Note When Handling the Developing
Unit
∙ Take
care not to touch or leave scratches on the surface of the developing cylinder
in the developing unit.
∙ If
you are replacing the developing cylinder, be sure to provide measures to
prevent soiling with toner.
(The toner inside the developing unit
may spill out of the unit.)
■Points to Note When Handling the Transfer Charging
Roller
∙ When
holding the transfer charging roller, do not touch or push its rubber
portion.
■Points to Note When Removing the Toner
Bottle
∙ When you release the bottle
locking lever and pull the toner bottle out of the machine, there will likely be
a gap around the mouth at the tip of the bottle. If you are doing so when the
bottle has become completely empty, there will be no problem. If the bottle
contains an appreciable amount of toner, however, be sure to observe the
following to avoid spilling of the toner. (The user must also be aware of this
fact.)
| 1) When pulling out the toner bottle, take care not to hit the toner outlet. 2) After pulling out the toner bottle, do not hold it upside down. |
